500,000 square feet of ‘smart glass’ to be installed at Dallas Fort Worth

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) will have 500,000 square feet of smart glass installed in its passenger terminals. The glass, which controls the sun’s energy and minimises glare and heat, will be provided by Californian-based company View.

The announcement follows a study published in April which took place at DFW’s Gate A28 and a nearby restaurant showing that that the company’s Dynamic Glass significantly improved passenger comfort over conventional glass, resulting in an 83 per cent increase in passenger dwell time at preferred gate seating and a 102 percent increase in concession sales. 

“Delivering a world-class customer experience is the overarching goal of DFW’s efforts to transform travel,” said Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport. “After testing Dynamic Glass in our terminals, we were thrilled to see the positive effects on the customer experience and look forward to installing the glass in locations that will have the greatest impact on our customers and our employees.”

DFW Airport is the world’s twelfth busiest airport,serving more than 67 million passengers travelling to 230 domestic and international destinations.

View Dynamic Glass has been installed at several airports to date, including Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
