John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is revitalising its Terminal 5 with a redesign that will feature a refreshed centre concourse and over 40 new concessions. Originally opened in 2008, Terminal 5 is home to JetBlue, which plans to open its first airport lounge at JFK in late 2025. The upgrades will be completed by the end of 2026, with new concessions expected to open throughout 2025.

Details on JFK’s Terminal 5 redevelopment

The redesigned concourse will be inspired by New York’s iconic parks, offering lush greenery, park benches, concrete chess tables, and warm lighting. There will also be pop-up experiences, interactive events, and live performances to showcase New York’s culture. The terminal will feature a new art collection with over 30 works by New York-based artists, further enriching the space.

New concessions include well-known local favourites such as Eataly, Shake Shack, The Halal Guys, Jacob’s Pickles, Serafina, Gotham Burger, Birch Coffee, DiFara Pizza, and Benetari’s, among others. These additions will offer passengers a range of dining and shopping options that reflect the spirit of New York.

Marty St. George, President of JetBlue, stated, “When it opened, Terminal 5 set a new standard for customer-focused airport design… We’re making T5 more uniquely New York while staying unmistakably JetBlue.” This redevelopment is part of the Port Authority’s $19 billion plan to overhaul JFK, aiming to elevate the customer experience.

Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority, noted, “Creating a uniquely New York sense of place at JFK… will make this terminal a memorable part of the passenger journey.” The new concessions and customer experiences, particularly the 18 local food and beverage options, will enhance the passenger experience and spotlight local businesses.

Fraport USA, manager of Terminal 5, is working alongside JetBlue and the Port Authority to transform JFK into a world-class global gateway, with the new amenities set to drive economic growth and innovation.
