Details of the landmark year at Miami

Mayor Levine Cava praised MIA’s accomplishments: “Miami International Airport continues to soar to new heights, breaking records, setting the standard for excellence in aviation, and strengthening our position as a leader in international trade and tourism.” She credited Director Cutié, airport partners, and MIA’s workforce for reaching all-time highs in both passenger and cargo services while paving the way for transformative projects in 2025.

In 2024, MIA set new records with nearly 56 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo, marking three consecutive years of record passenger traffic and five consecutive years of record cargo volume. Passenger traffic grew by 6.8%, with international travel up 8.4% and domestic travel up 5.6%. MIA also remains the fastest-growing mega airport (33+ million passengers) in the U.S. since the pandemic, with a 24% increase in airline seat capacity compared to 2019.

MIA’s Future-Ready Modernisation Plan focuses on updating infrastructure, including conveyance units, restrooms, and boarding bridges. Significant progress includes the renovation of 33 conveyance units, 48 restrooms, and 32 boarding bridges, two of which are energy-efficient. The $136-million Flamingo Garage expansion is on schedule, and the new $350-million Westin MIA Hotel will break ground in 2025. Additionally, a $750-million Concourse K expansion is set for review in 2025, adding six new gates by 2029.

Launched by Mayor Cava, the I AM MIA customer service programme has created 135 new Lightning Crew positions to address immediate maintenance needs. Over 1,300 employees have completed customer service training to enhance every customer interaction, making MIA’s service experience exceptional.
