Hong Kong International Airport received international recognition for its cargo service excellence, winning prestigious awards for innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability at major industry events.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the world’s busiest cargo hub, has earned multiple prestigious international awards for its exceptional cargo service efficiency, innovative practices, and sustainability initiatives.
At the 11th Payload Asia Awards in Singapore, HKIA was honoured as “Cargo Airport of the Year – Asia Pacific” and “Air Cargo Technology Provider of the Year.” This marks the third consecutive year that Payload Asia has recognised HKIA as the leading airport for vital air transport infrastructure and cargo connectivity in the region.
Cissy Chan, Executive Director, Commercial of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), said, “We are glad to be commended by the industry for our unwavering efforts to enhance HKIA’s cargo capabilities and efficiency through innovations and technologies. HKIA is the world’s busiest cargo airport. The commissioning of the Three-runway System will boost our capacity to handle 10 million tonnes of cargo per year. AAHK will remain devoted to strengthening HKIA’s position as a leading international aviation hub in the world, and injecting impetus into the economic growth of Hong Kong and the region.”
Details of the event
This year’s Payload Asia Awards acclaimed organisations for making exceptional progress in driving sustainability and efficiency through digitalisation in the aviation and logistics sectors. Winners were decided through evaluation by an expert panel, in addition to online votes.
The “Air Cargo Technology Provider of The Year” commended the digital transformation achievements under the HKIA Cargo Data Platform’s import module, which incorporates the world’s first digital pouch function with IATA’s ONE Record standard through strategic collaboration with Global Logistics System (HK) Co. Ltd. The pioneering module streamlines import cargo handling process and allows paperless operations, enhancing user experience with the digital connectivity extended beyond Hong Kong to other origins. It was the second year in a row that HKIA was honoured for the air cargo technology provided.
HKIA’s cargo service excellence was also recognised by Air Cargo News. At the 40th Air Cargo News Awards held in London, HKIA was again named “Cargo Hub of the Year”, following last winning in 2019. The awards honoured achievements in the aviation sector, from innovative solutions to investments in new technologies, after a rigorous judging process conducted by an independent expert panel.
Meanwhile, HKIA clinched the “Best Cargo Hub” and “Best Sustainable Initiative” accolades at the Super Terminal Expo 2024. The former lauds the airport’s state-of-the-art cargo facilities and efficient services, while the latter acknowledged its comprehensive vision, commitment and initiatives to promote sustainability.
