CSMIA is leveraging cutting-edge cleaning technology with autonomous Scrubber Dryer Robots, enhancing operational efficiency within the terminal.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has introduced Scrubber Dryer Robots in its Terminal 2.
The cleaning robots leverage state-of-the-art technology to efficiently provide an immaculate environment for the airport’s passengers.
The autonomous robots boast a range of advanced features designed to optimise the cleaning process. Equipped with Li-Ion batteries, they can operate continuously for up to eight hours, across a wide temperature range.
Currently, CSMIA has deployed two units of these Scrubber Dryer Robots at Terminal 2, in collaboration with its technology partners, with plans to expand this technology further in the FY 2025. While the robots operate autonomously, they can be operated remotely, with minimal manual assistance required for tasks such as water refilling. They provide dynamic cleaning, with adaptable cleaning modes based on the floor type and dirt levels.
Furthermore, the robots deliver real-time reporting, providing CSMIA with comprehensive data analysis for optimal hygiene performance, thus ensuring passenger wellbeing.
To ensure seamless operations, machine operators undergo comprehensive training and receive certification upon qualification. This ongoing training ensures that the machines are operated safely and efficiently.
Safety is paramount in the deployment of these robots. They are equipped with a beacon with flashlight to alert nearby staff and passengers, speed control mechanisms to reduce their speed during busy periods. In addition, the Scrubber Dryer Robots boast automotive-grade ultrasonic sensors on the front and sides for detecting glass and sudden obstacles, ensuring seamless operation. An emergency stop switch is also available on each robot, and authorised employees are trained by Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engineers to handle the machines proficiently.
Beyond operational efficiency, these robots offer significant environmental and sustainability benefits compared to traditional cleaning methods. They save over 50% of electricity and approximately 20% in water usage, while reducing chemical consumption through dynamic cleaning processes. CSMIA states this eco-friendly approach underscores the airport’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in airport management.
