Vancouver Airport installs BorderXpress Automated Passport Kiosks at Oakland

Vancouver International Airport has introduced its BorderXpress automated passport kiosk solution at Oakland International Airport.

Vancouver Airport’s BorderXpress Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks have been installed for use by international passengers at Oakland International Airport, California. The airport unveiled eight new kiosks, which according to Vancouver speed up processing times by 89 percent. With traditional methods, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer can only process approximately 41 passengers per hour. With APC, CBP officers can process 162 passengers per hour.

The passport control technology has been developed by Innovative Travel Solutions and is available at 24 international airports including, Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The technology also provides service in 26 different languages.

According to Vancouver Airport, the self-service border kiosks are a quick, easy and secure alternative to the traditional full clearance with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at the inspection line.

Instead of manually filling out a printed declaration card and waiting to take their travel documents to an officer, eligible passengers who choose to use APC can proceed directly to a self-service kiosk in the U.S. CBP inspection facility.

Travellers follow simple on-screen instructions to scan their travel document, answer customs declaration questions using the touch screen, take a photo, receive a receipt confirming their information and proceed to the officer for a final review.

The APC service is currently available for U.S. and Canadian passport holders, visitors from Visa Waiver countries with an Electronic System for Travel AuthoriSation (ESTA) approval and US Lawful Permanent Residents.
