International traffic increased nearly 22 percent in February at Orlando International Airport (MCO) . A large portion of the international growth can be attributed to a number of factors, including new service from Azul, Silver and Sunwing Airlines along with increases in passenger volume from Copa, Virgin Atlantic, Southwest , Air Transat, TAM and AeroMexico. The domestic travel market also experienced healthy growth of over 5.5 percent for the month.
This news comes on the heels of the announcement from Visit Orlando that Central Florida broke a record and retained its title as the most visited destination in the country with over 62 million travelers in 2014.
“An increase of 22 percent in international traffic is substantial and is reflective of the fact that Central Florida is the number one travel destination in the country,” says Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “I’m convinced these numbers will continue to show growth as we receive more announcements of new domestic and international service from around the world.”
February Statistical Data:
- International traffic jumped 21.65 percent in February with 357,099 total passengers at MCO
- Domestic traffic climbed 5.55 percent with a total of 2,579, 780 passengers during the month
- Overall traffic was up 7.28 percent with a total of 2,936,879 travelers at Orlando International in February
- For the first two months of the year traffic at Orlando International is up 8.05 percent compared to the first two months of 2014
