Malta International Airport (MLA) has set into motion an exciting project, which will see the complete overhaul of the food court on Level -1 by 2022, with an investment to the tune of €2 million.
The new and improved food court will provide a much wider and more international food offering catering to different tastes through the introduction of five new eateries, featuring some of the island’s favourite homegrown brands and a restaurant.

The five eateries will introduce a street-food concept at Malta International Airport and, together with popular franchises Burger King and KFC, will be geared at guests looking to grab a quick bite before proceeding with their journey. Patrons having more time, on the other hand, can properly savour the experience at the new restaurant and bar on the upper level.
George Mallia, MIA’s Head of Retail and Property said: “Guest feedback has consistently shown us that the food offering contributes greatly to an elevated airport experience. With this in mind, as well as the fact that, over the years, the airport has become a popular dining destination in the south of Malta, the company decided to embark on the food court project at a strategic time when there is pent-up demand for out-of-door experiences and travel is gradually picking up.”

A reimagined aesthetic created through the use of large lighting features, rich materials, plush seating, and touches of greenery will ensure that the ambiance of the area complements the upgraded food offering.
The food court’s extended footprint together with a mezzanine on the ground floor will allow for an increase in capacity totalling 324 seats, as well as the introduction of several seating options suited to different group sizes and needs.

While works on the project are currently underway, the Burger King and KFC outlets are still open to guests seven days a week from morning until late. Malta International Airport is currently offering two hours of free parking to all guests.
