London Gatwick has announced that Zara, Ted Baker and Snow+Rock will open in South Terminal’s newly developed retail environment in the departure lounge in early December.

The new retail area is the final phase of an extensive £21m transformation of airside shopping in South Terminal, which has already seen eleven new or refreshed premium stores open since mid-July. New stores included airport firsts for Ernest Jones and Aspinal of London, followed by the launch of a brand new 6,000 sq ft Harrods fashion and accessories department store in August.

The transformation of South Terminal follows extensive passenger research and feedback. Every year, Gatwick surveys passengers specifically on catering and retail at the airport with results clearly showing that travellers want to see a much more diverse spread of shops and restaurants. A key piece of feedback was that passengers wanted a good mix of luxury and high street or well-known international brands, as well as more choice in the premium leisure sector.

In December, Zara – one of the world’s largest fashion brands – will open a 4,500 sq ft outlet, its largest UK airport store to date. Ted Baker will open a 1,000 sq ft store, following the success of the brand’s North Terminal fashion store and bespoke Gatwick accessories outlet – the only one of its kind in the world.

Opening its first airport store, Snow+Rock will provide a unique premium leisure offering to Gatwick passengers. Focusing on footwear, accessories and clothing, the 1,000sq ft store will appeal to passengers travelling during the ski season and more broadly on outdoor-focused holidays.

Spencer Sheen, Head of Retail at London Gatwick, said: “Gatwick wants to be London’s airport of choice in every area. For retail, we aim to deliver a mix of stores that are fashionable, relevant and will enhance the experience of travelling through the airport. Opening stores such as Zara, Ted Baker and Snow+Rock is based on the customer research that we conduct and is another exciting step in our extensive redevelopment of the South Terminal.”

Craig Smith, Brand Communication Director, Ted Baker commented: “Quality airport shopping has now become such an integral part of the overall travel experience. Our move to open at Gatwick South builds on the success of our expanding portfolio of airport stores where we are already seeing great success and this new location will only strengthen that.”

Kevin Young, Group Marketing Director, Snow+Rock commented: “We are very excited to be opening our first airport retail location in this brand new development at Gatwick’s South Terminal. This is a key travel hub for UK skiers and many other travellers and will drive both sales and brand awareness as millions of people pass our shopfront each year. We will be offering pick-up items and more indulgent purchases at ‘tax-free’ prices with branded areas showcasing ranges from Salomon and Icebreaker plus selected highlights from our winter sports and outdoor ranges.”
