Cardiff Airport has promoted Spencer Birns to the position of Director of Aviation Business Development, heading up the airport’s campaign for more flights.
The appointment comes following the change in ownership and appointment of Chief Executive Officer, Jon Horne and Non Executive Directors in April 2013.
Spencer Birns first joined the airport in 2006 as Head of Aviation Relations having previously worked at Manchester Airport and touroperator My Travel.
Spencer will report directly to Chief Executive, Jon Horne and work alongside the other executive directors; Debra Barber (Operations), Steve Hodgetts (Commercial), David Pickard (Finance and Corporate Support Services) and Jason Thomas (Director of Projects and Delivery).
Jon Horne, Chief Executive at Cardiff Airport said, “Spencer has a great wealth of knowledge and experience of airline and tour operator business and is well placed to take the airport forward in the task of delivering more airline services and destinations.
“Spencer has already played an important part in the delivery of the airport’s recent passenger growth reported last month.”
Spencer Birns commented, “I am delighted to have been appointed Director and I am truly focussed on the task of restoring air services to the airport and delivering the choice to enable travellers to and from Wales to choose Cardiff Airport. We have a big task on our hands, but it is one I relish and I am confident we will ultimately succeed.”
Other changes in the airport team include; Margaret James becomes Head of Customer Service, reporting directly to Jon Horne. Cheryl Bray is now Head of Technical and Support Services reporting directly to David Pickard. Mike Pellegrotti has also joined the team on an interim basis to pick up responsibility for commercial matters.
