From Aalborg to Zurich – The Design Solution’s 100th Terminal

The Design Solution has been appointed to assist in the design concepts for a transformation to the main Terminal at Aberdeen International Airport. This marks the 100th airport terminal that they have been involved with.   Aberdeen Airport’s strategic location, close to the North Sea oil fields and some of the UK’s most remarkable countryside, has led to significant growth in recent times resulting in the airport achieving the accolade of “Fastest Growing Airport in the UK for 2011” with further growth of over 8% in 2012. Forecast future growth highlighted in the airports recently published Master Plan has resulted in a requirement for the terminal to be redeveloped to include increased security search areas larger airline lounges, increased seating capacity and more generous circulation routes as well as enhanced commercial facilities which are all strategically required.

With their experience of working on all aspects of terminal planning, The Design Solution has been selected to consult on the transformation of the terminal, which will include a strategic review of the current facilities and a total re-planning exercise to create a terminal that will satisfy anticipated passenger growth going forward.
