New historic monthly record for passengers – Cargo decline slows down…
In September 2012, Fraport AG welcomed around 5.36 million passengers at its Frankfurt home base, representing an increase of 52,000 passengers or 1 percent compared to September 2011. Despite a strike, a new historic September value was achieved. From January to September 2012, Germany’s most important aviation hub recorded a total of approx. 44.1 million passengers. This represents an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the first three quarters of 2011.
The cargo tonnage handled in September 2012 amounted to 178,876 tonnes – a decrease of 2.2 percent compared to September 2011. During the first nine months of 2012 the airport handled approx. 1.56 million tonnes of cargo. This represents a drop of 8.4 percent year-on-year.
The number of aircraft movements decreased slightly by 0.7 percent to 42,214 takeoffs and landings during the month of September 2012. In the first nine months of 2012 Fraport recorded a total of 366,544 movements. This represents a slight increase of 0.1 percent.
Maximum takeoff weights (MTOW) for September 2012 declined by 0.5 percent to about 2.5 million tonnes compared with the same period last. During the first nine months MTOW were down 0.3 percent to 22 million tonnes.
At Fraport’s majority-owned airports the following traffic figures were reported for the first nine months of 2012:
Lima Airport (LIM) recorded 9,845,236 passengers, an increase of 11.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
Turkey’s Antalya Airport (AYT) served 20,713,246 passengers. This represents a decrease of 0.1 percent.
In Bulgaria, Burgas (BOJ) registered 2,324,712 passengers (up 7.5 percent) and Varna (VAR) recorded 1,145,086 passengers (down 1.2 percent).
Passenger figures across the Group’s airports totaled 78,169,096. This represents an increase of 3.4 percent over the same period in 2011.
