The data industry is maturing at pace, riding in the slipstream of enterprise technology innovations around the cloud, artificial intelligence and machine learning. But collecting and storing data is no longer the number one priority. Today the emphasis is – or should be – on using data to provide insights into operational improvements, executing on the insights and reaping the rewards.
For airports, as for many others, the journey from data to insights has been challenging. A fragmented technology landscape – with different suppliers at different touchpoints using different data formats – is a large part of the problem. If airports do not have access to good quality data in the first place, operational insights are hard to identify and challenging to implement.
Until now. Amadeus Airport Insights is a new cloud-native solution developed specifically to drive a paradigm shift in not only data collection but also what can be done with the data.
Amadeus’ report “Building the insight‑driven airport” outlines the specific benefits of our solution, but also serves as a bigger picture, call-to-arms for airport owners and operators to acknowledge the business-critical role of data-driven decision-making.
Airport Insights sits on top of Amadeus Flow, our solution for passenger servicing, and our Airport Management systems. We collect and combine Amadeus Flow data – check‑in, bag drop units, passenger validation gate, boarding gates – with all flight-related data from our Airport Management systems. We then collate this and present the data as dashboards which provide a single view of all airport operations.
The dashboards and reports provide powerful insights that airports can use to inform planning, to feed operational decision‑making and to optimise every aspect of the passenger experience.
The proposition is simple, but the technology behind is advanced. Our strategic partnership with Microsoft makes us well positioned to be at the forefront of cloud developments.
We are responsible for the data coming out of Amadeus Flow and our Airport Management systems and we’re confident that the Airport Insights dashboards are populated with accurate data.
So, what can the data actually do? The white paper outlines some existing business cases for better data where Amadeus Airport Insights can deliver quantifiable benefits. Predicting passenger flows is always of interest to airport operators, and our predictions are based on a wide set of signals.
And because Amadeus Flow offers integrations with validated third-party data – such as feeds from public transport providers – this data can then become part of the Airport Insights dashboard and assist airports in their efforts to achieve end-to-end optimisation of the passenger journey.
Amadeus Airport Insights can also provide the basis for airports to deal with issues related to baggage, because the capabilities embedded into the solution can help airlines predict and pre-empt baggage delays and misconnections.
Data management can appear complicated, and it is. However, Amadeus Airport Insights allows airports to concentrate on executing the insights presented to them, because Amadeus will do the heavy lifting when it comes to technology.
