Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 tells International Airport Review about the new departures terminal at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, which is aiming to become a leader and a reference point in the aviation industry.

Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 (AA2000) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and it has marked the occasion with the inauguration of a new departures terminal at the Ministro Pistarini International Airport, also known as Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which is the most modern and technological terminal of all Latin America. This relaunch marks a milestone for the community and for AA2000, which is part of the Corporación América Airports (CAAP) group.

The design

The new terminal has been designed with strategic objectives in mind, including a focus on the passenger journey, a seamless and enjoyable experience, innovative design, and sustainability. With the aim of becoming a leader and a reference point in the aviation industry, AA2000 has created a new terminal that puts passengers first, embraces technology, and promotes sustainability.

The construction of the new terminal has generated more than 2,500 jobs, both direct and indirect, over a period of construction. With a total of 50,000m2, 1,600 tons of metal structure, and 380 tonnes of glass, it has increased the airport’s capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually, and its design incorporates a unique architectural feature – a zeppelin-shaped structure at the first-floor level, which serves as the main access point to the security, immigration, commercial, and pre-boarding areas.

The zeppelin is a 190m-long construction inside the terminal, contained by a 950-tonne metal structure in the shape of a net that is covered by more than 2,100 pieces of laminated tempered glass. This glass allows contact with the exterior and the entry of natural light.

The airport’s sustainability initiatives

Sustainability is also a key focus at the new terminal, with an emphasis on energy and water efficiency, waste management, and carbon reduction. The entire terminal is now powered by renewable energy, and 90% of the Ezeiza International Airport premises have reduced their carbon emissions by 90%.

“Because we know that travelling is an exciting adventure that begins and ends in our spaces we invite you to come and enjoy Ezeiza Airport. We are the hosts of the beginning and the end of your journeys.”

Focusing on the passenger, the new terminal offers services and experiences that make the travel journey more seamless and enjoyable. The airport has 150 check-in counters, 68 self-check-in stations, and 24 self-bag-drop stations. There is free Wi-Fi, charging areas throughout the airport, a wayfinding system, and a passenger flow system that predicts immigration and security processing times. The terminal also features information and accessibility centres, restrooms designed for all passengers, and a renewed commercial area.

In addition to this iconic opening, the relaunch of Ministro Pistarini International Airport goes beyond the new terminal. The airport has undergone a major transformation that can be seen in many areas, such as parking, gastronomy, and sustainability. The parking area now includes a self-guided multi-level parking lot connected to the new departures terminal, it has extended the long-stay parking area by 600 spaces, becoming the largest one in Argentina. Additionally, it is also offering valet parking service.

New passenger experience

The airport’s gastronomy has also been revamped with a selection of options that offer variety, quality, and competitiveness in prices.

In conclusion, the relaunch of Ezeiza International Airport is a significant achievement for Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 and the aviation industry in Argentina. The new terminal has set new standards in passenger experience, sustainable design, and technological innovation, cementing AA2000’s position as a leader in the aviation sector.
