SEA, Società Esercizi Aeroportuali, and ENAV, the Italian Company for Air Navigation Services, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to implement the A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision Making) Programme aimed at improving air traffic flow management in the Milan airport system, and optimising the processes linked to the use of airport infrastructures and resources.

This is a software platform shared by all the parties involved in the operational process, aimed at optimising flight management to improve rotation times and aircraft ground assistance. In Italy, A-CDM trials will be held at Malpensa and Linate, as well as Fiumicino and Venice. It has already come to other European airports including Munich, Frankfurt, Paris and Brussels, where significant results have been achieved, such as: delay reduction, improvement of departure planning, greater predictability of events, better use of slots and better use of all the airport resources. This gives concrete benefits for the airport management company, carriers, air traffic control service providers and ground assistance service providers.

The agreement between SEA and ENAV – signed by SEA Chairman, Giuseppe Bonomi, and ENAV CEO, Massimo Garbini – is the result of the need to implement the Airport Collaborative Decision Making project as soon as possible, since according to the indications issued by Eurocontrol and confirmed by the European Commission, it must be completed by all flight service providers within the timing provided for in the Single European Sky.

The implementation of A-CDM at the Malpensa and Linate airports will take place by 2013 under the Local Single Sky Implementation Plan Italy Years 2011-2015

Statement by SEA Chairman, Giuseppe Bonomi: “This means a step forward for SEA in the optimisation of air traffic flow management, putting us among the most advanced European airports. This agreement allows for the reduction of congestion at peak times, the better planning of departures and the better management of the resources of the protagonists involved. However, I would like to stress that this will also increase safety levels and reduce environmental pollution, which are two priorities of our airports, distinguished by concern for climate change. They are also accredited with the neutrality level the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, thanks to the actions undertaken for CO2 reduction.”

Statement by ENAV CEO, Massimo Garbini: “With today’s agreement, ENAV is pursuing its commitment the increasing improvement of the various performance factors that make an airport more modern and efficient. Malpensa and Linate are important testing grounds for this commitment. It is only by coordinated growth by all the protagonists in the flight sector that the Italian system as a whole as well as passengers can receive the benefits; these benefits are not only hoped for but considered as indispensable by companies like ENAV, which has the safety and regularity of the service as its institutional mission.”
