CICS (Complete Integrated Certification Services Ltd) has strengthened its position as one of the leading aviation verification bodies by acquiring Dynasys Corp, an important player in the emerging U.S. carbon verification and management systems market. The company also announced that it has launched a new website – www.cicsglobal.com/aviation.
As one of the leading GHG verifiers in Europe and North America and having verified over €7 billion worth of EU ETS emissions to date, the acquisition will see CICS add to its team of experienced emissions auditors.
Although no mandatory carbon verification programme exists in the US at this time, US aircraft operators who fly into/out of Europe may fall under the new EU ETS regulations, meaning that they will have to monitor their emissions and have them independently verified before reporting by 31 March 2011. “Having experienced auditors based on both sides of the Atlantic can only benefit US operators,” said Shaun Bainbridge, a director at CICS.
In addition, more and more companies are taking action to monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a voluntary basis; having these independently verified adds weight and assurance to the figures reported. CICS has already built up a long track record in aviation verification, having worked with international carriers to monitor their emissions. Their auditors also recently undertook dedicated training with IATA’s Training & Development Institute.
Aircraft operators can download a free white paper on emissions verification for the EU ETS at www.cicsglobal.com/aviation.
