At the end of February 2025, the Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.), which manages Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland, signed an agreement with PROMUS Ruda Śląska sp. z o.o. for the construction of a fourth aircraft maintenance hangar.
Details of Katowice Airport’s new aircraft maintenance hangar
The new facility, Hangar H4, is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026, covering 11.2K m² of usable space and 121.2K m³ in cubic volume. The hangar will feature two bays for handling Code C aircraft (such as Airbus A320 and Boeing 737), a three-storey support area with office, social, and training spaces, along with dedicated workshop rooms including a grindery and paint shop. At 17.5 metres high and with an 88-metre-long four-winged gate, Hangar H4 will be strategically located next to hangar H3 and the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency ATC tower.
Once completed, the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, Operations) area at Katowice Airport will expand to 34.4K m², with four hangars and eight bays for complex aircraft maintenance. The construction of Hangar H4 will create 200-300 new jobs for qualified aviation staff.
Artur Tomasik, President of GTL S.A., said, “The fourth hangar translates to further 200-300 new workplaces for qualified staff. We are preparing plans for further MRO base expansion.” Maciej Wiora, Technical Director at PROMUS, added, “Collaborating on this investment is an opportunity to benefit from experience and best practice for smooth functioning.”
Hangar H4 is part of a larger investment program at Katowice Airport for 2024-2032, which includes expanding passenger, aircraft maintenance, and cargo infrastructure. The estimated value of the program is PLN 1.5 billion.
