UrbanV, the Italian vertiport network operator, and PAX Aeroportos, concessionaire of Campo de Marte and Jacarepaguá airports in Brazil, have been selected by ANAC (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) to implement a regulatory sandbox at Campo de Marte Airport, São Paulo.
This initiative is a major milestone for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in Brazil, establishing a testbed for innovative solutions under real-world conditions. The sandbox will ensure these solutions meet safety, efficiency, and regulatory standards before wider implementation. Testing will focus on vertiport design criteria, passenger processing analysis, and integrating eVTOLs (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft) into existing airport infrastructure.
UrbanV and PAX Aeroportos are committed to developing vertiport infrastructure at Campo de Marte and Jacarepaguá airports, with plans to expand across São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This partnership supports the development of a more efficient, sustainable, and innovative urban air mobility ecosystem in Brazil.
Carlo Tursi, CEO of UrbanV, said: “At UrbanV, we aim to improve people’s lives by enabling a fast, efficient, safe, and clean alternative to existing transport solutions for people and goods over short distances, by air. We have the ambition to become a major global operator of vertiport networks and we will be global pioneers in establishing some of the first AAM routes worldwide. We are excited to partner with PAX Aeroportos, an important player in airport management, and we look forward to exploring together with them the great potential of advanced air mobility in Brazil.”
Rogério Prado, CEO of PAX Aeroportos, added: “Our airports are strategically located in Brazil’s two largest capitals, catering to business and general aviation. This aligns with future eVTOL demand, and our partnership with UrbanV in the Regulatory Sandbox will help shape the framework for vertiport infrastructure in Brazil.”
