Denver International Airport (DEN) has officially opened its latest gate expansion area in collaboration with Denver-based Frontier Airlines. Earlier in October 2024, DEN had fully unveiled a remodeled and expanded section of Concourse A, covering 120,000 square feet. The $220 million project, which includes a ground boarding facility on the eastern edge of the concourse, had been completed on time and within budget.

Construction of the new facility began in the summer of 2022. The expansion adds 37,000 square feet of new concourse space and renovates an additional 83,000 square feet. It is organised into two parallel corridors – north and south – offering access to six new gate waiting areas, five new gates and nine remodeled gates, bringing the total to 14 gates. While Frontier Airlines began limited operations in the north corridor in February 2024, the entire facility had officially been opened on 1 October 2024. The expansion also includes office space and an 8,000-square-foot maintenance facility for the airline.

Denver Airport CEO Phil Washington said: “Completing the Concourse A-East expansion project marks a major milestone in our effort to serve 100 million annual passengers within the next several years. I’m proud of everyone at DEN who ensured this project was completed on time and within budget while maintaining a clear commitment to airport growth to meet our tremendous demand.”

The new area offers various amenities for travellers, such as charging stations, a nursing room, a pet relief area, family restrooms, and companion care rooms. Dining and shopping options are also available, with Snarf’s Sandwiches, Brothers BBQ, Breckenridge Brewery, and a CNBC shop already in operation. Another food and beverage concept is expected to open by mid-2025.

Frontier Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Customers, Alex Clerc, said: “We are very excited about the expansion on Concourse A and look forward to providing a great experience for our customers, along with increased operational efficiencies, in conjunction with the new facility.”

Travellers can access the Concourse A-East expansion via escalators near Gate A53, which lead to Gates A54–A84 through the newly opened north and south corridors.
