Bristol Airport announce next phase of decarbonisation fund

Bristol Airport have announced the next phase of funding for the Aviation Carbon Transition (ACT) Programme – an initiative designed to fast-track decarbonisation projects, which targets Scope 3 emissions from flight and transport.

The fund, which focuses on the South-West region, aims to offer support to organisations which are developing new technologies to help the aviation industry achieve zero carbon emission flights.

The ACT Programme has an annual cap of £250,000, offering individual grants to businesses and universities. Proposals up to £50,000 are encouraged. Projects which are considered exceptional, and demonstrate significant potential for carbon reduction, may be considered for higher levels of funding.

The programme is dedicated to fostering innovation in several key priority areas:

• Alternative Fuels: Research and development of lower carbon alternative fuels, including biofuels, hydrogen-based fuels, and synthetic fuels, as well as technologies for their storage, handling, and distribution at Bristol Airport.
• Electric Solutions: Development of electric technologies, including charging infrastructure, battery handling, and electric distribution systems at Bristol Airport.
• Local Carbon Reduction Projects: Initiatives that generate positive carbon reduction to offset emissions from Bristol Airport.
• Innovative Technologies: Early-stage development of breakthrough technologies that have the potential to significantly reduce aviation carbon emissions.
• Infrastructure and Operations: Enhancements in airport infrastructure and operational practices to optimise energy efficiency, such as advanced air traffic management systems and ground-based electric vehicle fleets.
