London Britannia AirportThe first images of the proposed Thames Estuary airport hub have been released by Testrad, the consortium behind the project. The six-runway airport, backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson and dubbed ‘Boris Island’, would cost £47.3 billion to build over a seven-year construction period. The project would see the Thames Gateway area developed and regenerated and would overcome some of the problems highlighted by alternative expansion projects, by avoiding the need to demolish housing and infrastructure.

The location would also see minimum people affected by noise and would see the construction take place on ‘blue greenfield’ water, which would see less environmental disruption than some alternative proposals.
